history of the Euganean Hills

Origins of the Euganean Hills: history and geography

Volcanic Origins

The Euganean Hills are as old as time itself: reliefs of volcanic rock dating back some 30 million years, which today appear as almost isolated outcrops on the broad Veneto plain. Their geological nature has produced an impressive landscape consisting of rounded cones, lava rocks and fertile soils. Consequently, the formation of the Euganean Hills has favoured a wealth of microclimates and variety of landscapes. The mission that the proprietors of the Azienda Agricola Le Volpi & Monte Fasolo have chosen is to enhance the land they occupy through sustainable agriculture and hospitality, giving people the chance to relax in a setting of beauty and peace, characterized by the gentle rhythms of nature.

The Mediterranean climate creates especially favourable conditions in certain areas, ideal not only for growing vines but similarly olive trees, which have now become well established in several parts of the Euganean Hills. The Le Volpi Winery has found its true mission in these two elements: the vine and the olive tree, wine and oil, a marriage of history and tradition that drives us to keep searching for original flavours, to experience what we see as an unbreakable bond with our native land.
